The iPad mini has been surprisingly successful for Apple. When the device was launched, not everyone expected it to do as well as it has over the past few months. Naturally, Apple fans would like to know when the next iPad mini will be released to the market. If NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim is right, Apple will be releasing two Retina iPad mini versions, one in the second half of this year, and the other in Q1 of 2014.
The iPad mini 3 will have a Retina display plus an updated processor. Details remain a bit sketchy here. Apple is unlikely to sell the iPad mini 2 for anything higher than what we pay for the old iPad mini today. Apple is also rumored to be working on a phablet for 2014. It is not clear if that will affect Apple’s tablet plans.
Speaking of Apple rumors, the company is still expected to release a budget iPhone to the market this year. As DigiTimes is suggesting, the model will have cost-effective plastic chassis with a 4-inch LTPS panel and an A6 processor. The budget iPhone will be released in smaller volumes. This rumor does suggest that Apple may be interested in testing the idea before putting its full weight behind it. Will these cheaper iPhones even come to this side of the world? That remains to be seen.
