We have seen a number of decent iPhone screen recorders in the past. Unfortunately, they do not last long in the App Store. Apple has removed a bunch of them in the past. You could always jailbreak your device to get around that or download an app like xRec. The xRec Screen Recorder does not require you to jailbreak your device but it could always be removed by Apple. As the name suggests, xRec records your iPhone screen without you having to rely on a HDMI capture device.
The idea behind xRec is simple: just open xRec, choose the right settings, tap Start, and you are set. You can record games or anything else you have in mind. xRec will take care of everything else for you. xRec sets you back under $2 at this time. While the app is very handy, we now only use HDMI capture cards to record iPhone / iPad apps. Apple has removed apps like xRec from the App Store in the past. It could happen again.
Speaking of cool iPhone apps, Fastr Pro happens to be an elegant e-book reader that lets you practice speed reading on your iOS device. You get multiple ways to add books. Dropbox is supported too. Once you upload your ePub books, you can change the number of words that show up on your screen and the speed in which they disappear. Fastr Pro keeps track of your reading stats and text highlights. This is a nice little tool to use to improve your reading skills.
