The rumors about iPhone 5 making its debut during WWDC have been quite astonishing. Apple fans are becoming too demanding or so it seems. We have known for weeks that Apple won’t possibly be able to prepare a new phone to announce it at WWDC. Yet, many have argued that the company will release an iPhone anyway. This WWDC is all about iCloud. The future of the music is in the cloud. Amazon got the ball rolling by introducing Amazon CloudDrive. Google followed it with a service of its own. Now it’s Apple’s turn.
Apple’s cloud service for music is expected to be similar to those of Amazon’s and Google’s in some ways. But Apple was able to get major music industry players on-board with its project. That will enable the company to offer feature such as scan & match (scanning hard drives to find matching files in the cloud). As Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu explained:
It looks like Apple will likely offer some base service for free.. Competitors, including RIM, Google, Amazon and Microsoft already have a hard time competing with iTunes as it is, but we believe will likely find it even tougher with iCloud enhancements.
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, is expected to make the big announcement himself today. iOS5 and the next generation Mac OS will be a part of the announcement. Without a doubt, iCloud will be integrated deeply in both products. iOS5 is rumored to offer Twitter integration and widgets. At this point, we do not expect Apple to introduce a new hardware product at this event. Rumor has it that a new Time Capsule for iCloud has been in the works for a while. But we can’t confirm that at this point.
