We have heard rumors about Apple being interested in adding biometric security to future iOS devices. The company has not pulled it off yet. But that has not stopped it from filing for more applications relating to this technology. The latest application covers a fingerprint sensor that would be embedded into the iPhone. The document describes a windows that could become transparent to reveal a biometric component.
The biometric sensor might very well be a fingerprint reader. But Apple may add face or eye recognition technology to the iPhone in the future. This system could be useful for handling e-commerce transactions as well. The goal here is to hide the components of a biometric system behind a window and keep them hidden while not in use. Apple has had other exciting patent applications in the past. That does not mean we will get this system anytime soon though.
Speaking of sensors, the Sensus iPhone case is an interactive case that makes the back of iPhones touch-sensitive. It features capacitive sensors on its back and the top edge so users can handle their device without having to worry about doing things by accident. Canopy’s case essentially makes your iPhone more touch-sensitive. The sensors can handle up to 10 independent responses. With the Sensus case, games can have more variable controls. The product is available for pre-order for $59 and will ship in the first quarter of 2013.
