Samsung and Apple have been going back and forth in the smartphone business for quite some time now. When Apple decided to target Samsung‘s products across the globe, it certainly anticipated Samsung to retaliate. With iPhone 5 expected to be a huge hit, it is not surprising to see Samsung going after it. The company plans to stop iPhone 5 in its tracks in Korea by getting the latest iPhone blocked. A senior executive at Samsung told Korea Times that iPhone 5 will indeed have trouble in South Korea:
Just after the arrival of the iPhone 5 here, Samsung plans to take Apple to court here for its violation of Samsungs wireless technology related patents…. For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights.
Samsung has become quite aggressive with its legal threats after Apple managed to successfully stop Galaxy Tab in Germany. The company is targeting Apple in Australia too. We wish some of these companies would spend more time innovating than launching one patent lawsuit after another against their competitors. For the time being, we will continue to hear a lot about these lawsuits.
Speaking of iPhone 5, a recently leaked photo from AT&T’s internal inventory system clearly shows a white iPhone 4s model in the system. For months, we have been hearing about Apple’s plan to bring two new iPhones to the market this year. The move seems a bit unlikely at this point. This is most likely a mistake (if not a fake picture). We will find out in a matter of few weeks.
