Being able to hail a cab from your smartphone is not a revolutionary idea these days. There are a few services that make that easy. In the future, we could have driverless cabs responding to smartphone requests though. DeNA and ZMP are teaming up to work on a driverless taxi called Robot Taxi. The car will be dispatched in response to smartphone requests.
ZMP will work on the automated driving features while DeNa will handle the software. There are going to be many challenges ahead for this project. It will probably take years for driverless cabs to become accepted. But it is nice to see that companies are already working on these solutions.
