Patent: Apple Plans New Antenna

2010 has been a great year for Apple in terms of the amount of profit that it has made. At the same time, the company has had to deal with all kinds of issues since the release of iPhone 4 (antenna-gate is the most important one). Apparently, Apple is not ignoring the iPhone’s antenna issue and is doing something about it. A recently discovered patent demonstrates Apple’s plan for a logo antenna for iDevices. Hiding the antenna behind Apple logo will allow it to gain a stronger signal with any interference.

Designing smartphones and tiny gadgets is a complex problem. Smartphone makers want to fit in as many features as possible without having to make major changes to their design. As we have seen with iPhone 4, sometimes things do not work out the way these companies intend them to. The best smartphone in the world would not be more than a crippled gadget with a badly designed antenna. Apple’s logo antenna solution is a quite smart idea to reduce any interferences and offer idevice owners better connections on the go.

What’s interesting about this patent is the fact that it applies to more than just laptops and smart-phones. Could Apple be planning to bring this design to wearable devices such as watches and pendants? While we can’t predict the future, it is certain that logo antennas mean Apple will probably never have to deal with antennagate-type issues again.
