Apple certainly knows how to keep the attention of its long time customers and fans. For months, we have been hearing about a mystery product that Steve Jobs is personally managing, a tablet that will act as a portable computer, e-book reader, phone, and everything in between. The details on this new device have been very sketchy. Some have argued that Apple is looking to enter the netbook market without associating itself with that brand. Netbooks are recession friendly mini laptops after all, and as we all know Apple does not produce cheap products.
The discussion all along has been about the nature of this product. Will the iPad be a bigger iPod Touch or will it be a brand new device with its own flavor of Mac OS. Wired.com is reporting that Apple will indeed introduce two tablet models. One will be an iPod Touch XL. A larger screen, probably a better chip, and a better quality picture. The second model will come with a 3G connection and will be more like a super large iPhone.
iTablet’s release date seems to be sometime early in 2010. We have heard a lot of rumors on that but the majority of them point to Jan 19, 2010 as athe release date for the device. There is no way to confirm or debunk such a claim but it’s safe to say that we will see Apple’s tablet very soon.
It’s still not clear what Apple has in mind for this new gadget. There are many directions Apple can go with this gadget. The iTablet can act as a great educational tool for students and teachers. It could also act as an e-book reader (beware Kindle!). Let’s not forget that its tablet features put it in direction competition with other tablets on the market (including HP’s tablets). Apple could also introduce larger size tablets in the future to target certain niches. But for the start, it seems we are going to be getting a larger iPod Touch probably with a web cam. It will be a hit, and it will certainly be “cool.” But let’s hope it’s affordable too.
