Lapka Tests Your Food to See If It is Organic
0We have seen plenty of awesome iPhone enhanced products and add-ons in the past. Lapka is one you can use to monitor your personal environment. It can measure humidity/temperature, radiation, and EMF. Users can also use this to find out whether their food is organic. The device is currently in the prototype stage. It will have sensors that plug into your iPhone’s jack to measure your environment. Lapka can measure nitrate concentration in your food (commonly used in non-organic fertilizers).
Lapka does not require its users to be highly technical to take advantage of its readings. It tells you whether the readings you are getting are acceptable.
For example, you can measure radiation on the plane and little bit higher level will be okay, because app knows that you won’t stay there for 24 hours and that higher radiation is common for the planes. But with the same level of radiation in your kid’s bedroom it will alarm you and give you explanation to motivate your further actions.
says Creative Director Vadik Marmeladov. You can’t buy Lapka yet. But the whole package with four peripherals should be available this December. It will cost you around $220. The makers are looking to add more sensors such as allergen sensor, glucometer, blood pressure monitor, and fitness tracker.
The idea of appcessories is nothing new. Many companies have already brought their app-enhanced products to the market (e.g. Withings). Lapka does seem to be the first iPhone sensor targeting organic food. It is not clear how accurate it will be with its measurements though. Can accessories such as this keep organic food companies honest? We will have to wait and see.
