Apple has already achieved a lot of success with iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices. It is expected to continue selling phones and tablets like hot-cakes. But multiple sources have reported that the company plans to expand the iOS platfrom one way or another. As reported on Engadget, some iOS apps seem to be listed as compatible with ix.Mac.MarketingName. If this was showing up everywhere, we could discount it as being just a bug. But could Apple really be working on a new iOS device?
Apple did promise to bring applications to Apple TV. Apple’s settop box has not caught fire like the company expected it to. With a decent set of apps, it could reach a whole new level. This device could be just the convertible Macbook that Apple has been rumored to be working on (probably wishful thinking though).
Speaking of Apple TV, the Apple TV set rumors refuse to die. Apple TV is a wonderful device but Steve Jobs and company would not mind selling us iOS enhanced TV sets. Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White suggests Apple TVs could become a reality sooner rather than later:
Our research suggests this Smart TV would go well beyond the miniature $99 second-generation Apple TV that the company released last fall and provide a full-blown TV product for consumers… We have indicated in numerous reports in the past that we felt Apple would eventually enter the $100 billion LCD TV market, and this data point suggests the company appears to be moving down this path at a faster pace than the market expected
The sky’s the limit for Apple. The iOS app store is becoming a big game changer for the company. Any iOS compatible device that Apple comes up with will have a ton of apps to power it up. It will be interesting to see how Apple would price 50 inch HDTVs. Apple displays are not exactly the cheapest products in their category. We still can’t imagine Apple introducing a HDTV this year though.
