Have you ever been in a situation where you have needed to access the Internet on your computer but didn’t have a viable WiFi network around you? Using your iPhone’s data connection to get online would not be such a bad idea. iTether is an iPhone application that makes that possible. It lets your laptop computer take advantage of your phone’s data plan to go online.
iTether has two parts: a PC/Mac client you need to have installed on your computer and an iPhone client to make the connection possible. As Wired.com suggests, the desktop client creates a virtual Ethernet port which your computer connects to via USB. The iPhone app needs to be running at all times for your connection to stay alive.
iTether is not the perfect solution by any means. Getting it to work on my Mac was quite a hassle. But this could prove useful for some. It is one of those apps that will most likely get discarded by Apple very soon (other similar apps have in the past). iTether does set you back $15.
