You have to admit that Verizon has been quite successful with its Droid ads. Usually, you expect Apple to come up with the best marketing campaigns on the market. But Verizon has taken a page out of Apple’s book to highlight the weaknesses of iPhone while pushing the Droid as an out of this world phone that is better than anything you have seen. Here is the latest Verizon ad that is making its way around the web (and on TV):
Droid has been described as many things in the past couple of weeks. Some overzealous analysts are calling it the best phone over, while others consider it a strong contender to Apple iPhone. I don’t necessarily consider the Droid to be superior to the iPhone. It has some certain advantages to the iPhone but not enough to beat iPhone in the this game. NY Times put it best:
the Droid wins on phone network, customizability, GPS navigation, speaker, physical keyboard, removable battery and openness (free operating system, mostly uncensored app store). The iPhone wins on simplicity, refinement, thinness, design, Web browsing, music/video synching with your computer, accessory ecosystem and quality/quantity of the app store.
Should you buy Verizon Droid? It really depends. If you have been on Verizon network for years and don’t want to make the switch to AT&T network (which has lots of issues), Droid is a nice phone to pick up. Droid won’t have as many apps as you can find for iPhone but it’s a step above most Android phones. But don’t forget that iPhone 4.0 will be on its way next year, so if you don’t need a new phone, and you already have an iPhone, you may want to pass on the Droid.
