iPad 2 is still not released to the market but that has not stopped some people from starting to discuss iPad 3 features. Many iPad fans were disappointed when the news broke out that iPad 2 would not have a full retina display. As reported on Apple Insider, retina display is reserved for iPad 3. iPad 3 is expected to ship with a 9.7 inch IPS panel with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology. That should not only offer a crisp viewing experience, it should make it easier for iPad 3 owners to use their device outdoors.
As we gather from the current crop of rumors on iPad, iPad 2 won’t have a 2048×1536 screen. The device will still be thinner and include front/rear facing cameras. iPad 2 will also have a thinner panel with a more anti-reflective display. Considering the features included in the upcoming set of Android tablets, Apple does not need revolutionary changes to stay competitive with its iPad 2.
We have heard many rumors about Apple working on smaller iPads to expand its reach in the tablet business. According to 9 to 5 Mac, Apple is exploring this idea though it seems the company is more interested in breathing new life into its iPod product line. A 6 inch iPod Touch won’t cannibalize iPad 2’s sale and will enable Apple to expand its market. iPod Touch as a gaming device is already very capable and will be more so with a larger screen.
Apple was rumored to be interested in releasing larger than 10 inch tablets. At this point it is not clear whether the company will go ahead with that plan. But a 6 inch iPod Touch could potentially boost iPods in this age of fancy smart-phones and tablets.
