We all store public and private data on our iPhones. Unless you have your phone with you 24/7, chances are it could end up in other people’s hand (even if it is for a short time). By using a four-digit passcode, you may be able to protect your private information. Unfortunately, this is not a bulletproof solution. Micro Systemation, a Swedish security firm that helps out police and military forces, has shown how easy it is to crack passcode protected iPhones.
Micro Systemation sells law enforcement and military the tools they need to access the devices of suspects. As the above video shows, the XRY software is capable of cracking iPhone’s passcode under 2 minutes. The approach is very similar to jailbreaking. The software looks for security flaws to get around your passcode protection. After getting around iPhone’s security restrictions, the software uses brute force attack to find you pin code.
Not surprisingly, longer passwords are much harder to guess. None of these so-called “security systems” are hack-proof. Both Android and iOS could use a better data security system. This does show that in order to keep your private data secure on your iPhone, you are going to need multiple layers of protection.
