One of Apple’s biggest events for the year is over. We now know what the iPhone 5 looks like and many of the features it offers. Yesterday’s event was arguably spoiled by all the leaks this time around. Unlike previous years, it seems many leaks we got ahead of time were indeed accurate. Apple may have added a larger display to the new iPhone but most experts agree that the device is an evolutionary upgrade over its predecessor.
Apple does seem to have found the sweet spot with its smartphones. Instead of making too many drastic changes to the iPhone 4S, the company has fine-tuned its current strengths and matched them with upgrades on the software side. Let’s make no mistake about it. Even though the iPhone 5 event was underwhelming for many of us, the device will sell well. In fact, it could break records for Apple yet again. It will be available through many carriers in the U.S. and around the globe. The iPhone 5’s competitors will be quite formidable this time around though.
Speaking of changes, it seems the time is up already for the Ping social network. Apple had grand plans for Ping but it never took off. The company has now announced that Ping will no longer be available as of September 30th. Apple did announce a bunch of other products including new iPods and the all new Lightning connector for iOS devices. We are going to have to wait and see whether the company goes ahead with its iPad mini plan at this point. With the new iPod Touch costing as low as $299, it will be interesting to see how much Apple will charge for its mini iPads.
