The iPhone 5 is not a revolutionary upgrade over the iPhone 4S. At the same time, it does offer enough features to make most iPhone users want to upgrade. The device will officially go on sale this upcoming Friday. It has already been sold out online. That means you are going to have wait a couple of weeks to get yours. The phone has a custom A6 processor inside. Thanks to Geekbench, we now know what the A6 processor has to offer.
Geekbench’s data seems to suggest the new A6 processor is a dual core one with 1GB of RAM. Not surprisingly, it is based on ARM architecture and clocks at 1.02 GHz. The Geekbench Score of 1601 is much higher than iPad 3’s score (766). No wonder the new iPhone runs twice as fast as its predecessor. In fact, the device is ahead of almost all Android devices tested so far in average score (though Nexus 7 comes close). This means picking up an iPhone 5 is a no-brainer for iOS users who need a faster, better performing phone.
Speaking up the new iPhone, Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T will be offering plans to iPhone 5 users. T-Mobile may be left out but it is planning to begin carrying nano-SIMs in mid October. T-Mobile may not be carrying the iPhone 5 at this time. But it will be able to target unlocked iPhone 5 customers with those SIM cards. T-Mobile does have a 4G HSPA+ network operational in certain cities. It needs to roll it out to more cities to grab the attention of iPhone 5 users though.
