Just a short while ago, most of us would be happy with Apple bringing a decent new iPhone model to the market. These days Apple fans expect much more from the company. iPhone 5 is coming in the next couple of months and will most likely be available through multiple wireless carriers. We have heard all kinds of rumors about iPhone 5 having a larger screen in comparison to iPhone 4. According to Digitimes, those rumors are not accurate:
The rumored specifications of iPhone 5 include a 4- to 4.2-inch HD touch panel, 8-megapixel camera, Full HD video recording, A5 dual-core processor and new ultra-thin industrial design; however, the sources believe that the leaked specifications are rather the market’s expectations for iPhone 5.
Smartphones that have larger screens than iPhone have been available for quite some time. Apple has decided not to follow suit so far. The new iPhone could still have an edge-to-edge screen. At this point, we do know that iPhone 5 won’t have A6 inside. The chip is slated to be released to the market in 2012 and won’t be ready anytime soon.
Steve Jobs has done a wonderful job getting Apple to where it is today. The new management still plans to target developing markets with budget iPhones. Engadget has gotten its hands on photos that suggest a budget iPhone 4s could be in the works. The above picture shows a test unit. But it does seem Apple is working on multiple iPhone models to expand its reach in the smartphone market.
Things are not going to get any easier for Apple’s management. Android handset makers such as Samsung are not going to give up the fight anytime soon. Samsung Galaxy II S and Motorola Bionic are two powerful Android phones that will hit the market before iPhone 5. Interestingly enough, there are rumors that Samsung is interested in purchasing WebOS. Things are going to get even more interesting in the smartphone and tablet markets.
