We all would love our new gadgets to work without any major issues. But not every early adopter gets that lucky. The early adopters for iPhone 4 and other Apple products are familiar with some of the issues those products have had early on. Some iPhone 4S customers are reporting that their phones have displays with washed out colors. While it is not clear how widespread this issues is, a number of iPhone 4S customers have reported this in Apple’s forums.
User Mark Aase shared this story in Apple.com forums:
My 4S screen is less contrasty, and the whites are more yellow (beyond “warm”) compared to my iPhone 4 screen. The colors are less vibrant, and some are pretty washed out. I’ve also noticed that the screen is more directional than the 4 screen, and in some viewing angles it’s more yellow, and in others it’s more contrasty.
Some folks are already calling this problem “yellowgate.” It is worth noting that some iPhone buyers experienced very similar issues on their phones last year. The “glue” issue did go away with time (glue being too new). We may not be dealing with the same issue here though.
Some shoppers have suggested that white iPhone 4S units do not suffer from this issue. We have not been able to confirm this at this point. AS CNET has noted, if this is indeed the glue issue from the past, it should go away after a few days. But be ready to contact your Apple store if your phone’s display does not get better.
