iPhone 4S Benchmark, Preparing for iOS 5
0There is no question many experts have underestimated iPhone 4S. The device is on its way to becoming one of the best selling smartphones so far. iPhone 4S may not have a radical new design but it does have a faster processor inside. Apple claims the device is much faster than its predecessor. While that may be true, the benchmarks AnandTech has gathered indicate the device falls just short of beating iPad 2 in speed department.
The above benchmarks shows that iPhone 4S is much faster in handling Javascript. CPU performance is dramatically improved as well. It does seem Apple is shipping a lower clocked A5 in the phone. That is not surprising considering that the battery in iPhone is smaller than the one available in iPad 2. iPhone 4S is rumored to have only 512MB in RAM, which is disappointing to many fans.
Those who intend to use iOS 5 on their smartphone as soon as possible need to take time to upgrade iTunes to version 10.5. The first step is to backup everything. iCloud users should pick a master device for their cloud account. Not surprisingly, iTunes 10.5 offers iTunes in the cloud, automatic content downloads, and WiFi syncing. The software is already available for download through Apple.
