iPhone 4 To Ship on June 24th

iPhone 4 is here, and it was as we had seen it in Gizmodo video. Apple finally unveiled its latest iPhone at WWDC yesterday and gave us a few surprises along the way. For starters, the device will come in two colors (black & white), something that many iPhone fans have been waiting for. At 9.3 millimeters, iPhone 4 is one of the thinnest gadgets around. Apple seems to have spent a lot of time engineering this masterpiece in a way that sets it completely apart from anything else on the market.

Apple has set the standard very high with iPhone 4 display. iPhone 4 offers 4 times the depth of iPhone 3GS. The glass used in this device seems to be pretty tough (as demonstrated at WWDC). Who can argue with the front-facing camera that enables iPhone owners to make video calls on WiFi (video calls on network are coming. Just not this year).

Here are a few other iPhone 4 features that were revealed during the event:

  • Front camera: 5-megapixel with LED flash with HD video support .
  • Back camera: VGA, up to 30fps.
  • takes advantage of A4 processor (the same used in iPad).
  • has a larger battery (16% larger).
  • features a three-axis gyroscope for more gaming precision.
  • FaceTime video chat will be available on on WiFi in 2010.
  • multi-tasking for iPhone 4 (sort of) with iOS4.
  • Netflix for iPhone.
  • iMovie for iPhone.

Of course, we did not get a new Apple TV or a Verizon iPhone during this event. Apple did release Safari 5 after the event, but Steve Jobs decided to keep the event completely focused on iPhone 4.

At this point, there is no question that Apple is going after the mobile gaming market. iPhone 4 is expected to give gamers even more precision when playing. Farmville and Guitar Hero for iPhone are just a start. Netflix for iPhone is another good move, but it is not clear how people can watch movies when they are being limited by those new plans by AT&T. Nobody wants to get a huge bill due to watching a couple of movies on their phone.

While iPhone 4 is a device to be excited about, I am more interested in iPhone 5 and beyond. Apple seems to be working super hard to differentiate iPhone from other smart-phones. That’s great news as we don’t need another Microsoft in the tech industry. Can we get a solar iPhone by the end of next year? I would not put it past Apple. A wearable iPhone? That’s probably a few years away.
