Smartphone makers claim all kinds of things to set themselves apart from their competitors. For companies such as Apple or Samsung, having the right to call their phones the thinnest in the world is a huge deal. Samsung would love to be able to call its Samsung Galaxy II the thinnest phone in the world. But the advertising Standards Agency (ASA) in the UK has decided to side with Apple on this.Â
Samsung would want the world to believe that its phone is only 8.71mm thick. That puts it way ahead of iPhone 4 which is 9.3mm in thickness. Apple claims that consumers are not interested in just knowing the thickness of the thinnest part of their phone. Apparently, a party had complained about Apple’s claims about iPhone 4’s thickness in an ad. The ASA has decided that the ad was not a misrepresentation after all.
Speaking of iPhone 4, it seems Sprint will be getting iPhone 4 in October (according to a Sprint Nextel associate). That is different from early rumors that suggested Sprint would indeed get iPhone 5 this year. The Sprint iPhone will launch in October 2011 with standard data plans. A premium data plan will be available for the phone as well. Sprint will also offer a 4G iPad in the near future.
It is highly unlikely for Sprint to settle on offering iPhone 4 when its rivals will be promoting iPhone 5. It is not only a dumb move but will backfire on the company. Sprint is probably using iPhone 4 material in its trainings to avoid leaking iPhone 5’s specifications by accident.
