Not everybody can handle being an early adopter. While early adopters get their hands on the latest gadgets earlier than others, they will have to deal with early bugs and glitches. iPhone 4 is no different. As shiny as the device is, it is going to have its issues. In fact, a few have surfaced already and managed to freak out a few iPhone fans. It seems a few iPhone owners have suffered dropped calls. Apparently, Apple does not have a left-handed person in its testing team. iPhone 4 owners are discouraged from “gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band.” That should address the issue of bad reception for some iPhone 4 owners.
So what’s behind the bad reception and dropped calls (other than AT&T that is)? Here is what Apple had to say:
Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone.
One of the most advertised iPhone 4’s features was its great reception and its antenna. It seems there are going to be a few issues for early adopters to deal with (since this design flaw is a “fact of life”).
Aaron Vronko, CEO of Portage, seems to believe there is a small design flaw in iPhone 4. Users will have to make sure they do not let their hands interfere with iPhone 4’s antennas:
Holding it, especially if your skin was a little bit sweaty, could bridge one or more of the antennas, That would change the length of the antenna, so it would be tracking a different wavelength than Apple designed it for.
iPhone 4 is not perfect, and early adopters need to brace themselves for more potential issues. Those who stood in line to pick up their phone in the very first day of its launch probably knew that beforehand.
