Many of us have already upgraded our phones to the latest generation iPhone (running on Verizon or AT&T). Both networks are rolling out their 4G networks, which means we could see iPhones that will be compatible with these speedy networks soon. Unfortunately, it seems some consumers do not even know what 4G is all about. A recent survey by retrevo showed that 34% of iPhone owners already think their phone is 4G. Apple probably should have just skipped the number 4 and gone straight to iPhone 5 to prevent these confusions from coming about.
According to the same survey, a lot of phone shoppers are not too impressed with 4G’s performance and assume it to be too expensive. Let’s face it. When AT&T and Verizon fix the issues with their networks, 4G will be worth it to a lot of people. This is not something some marketing and free transparency can’t fix. With 61% of current iPhone owners determined to buy the next generation iPhone with or without 4G, Apple has the luxury of time to come up with a full 4G phone in 2012.
After years of waiting, the iPhone finally did come to Verizon. If Piper Jaffray analyst Chris Larsen is correct, the next generation iPhone could come to Sprint and T-Mobile networks (CNET).
Our belief is that if Apple is already going through the trouble to make a device that has the ability to work on both major network technologies, why not include all the necessary spectrum bands to make one device work on all carriers
The next generation iPhone will most likely be a universal device. Apple will have to focus on working with more carriers to keep the momentum for iPhone going. Whether it will offer different, cheaper phones through other wireless carriers is anybody’s guess at this point.
