Apple is going to announce the new iPad mini on October 23rd. There is a very good chance the device will start shipping early in November. We already have heard a ton of rumors about the specifications of the device. The price has been harder to guess though. Some experts have suggested that Apple may get too aggressive and match the prices of the Kindle Fire HD or Nexus 7. 9 to 5 Mac’s sources have managed to get their hands on the pricing information for the new iPad:
These prices do make a lot of sense considering that the iPod Touch is going for $299 at this point. It is hard for Apple to justify selling the iPad mini for a lot less than its iPods. The base price for the mini iPad could be as low as $329. Models with higher capacities will cost $100 and $200 more.. The models with cellular connection will allegedly go for $130 more .
Rumors suggest that the new iPad will start shipping on November 2nd. It will be $130 more expensive than the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7. The introduction of this device could also bring the end for the old iPad 2. These old models have been going for $399 for a few months now. With the introduction of the iPad mini, Apple could reduce consumer confusion by taking out iPad 2 units out of the equation. More importantly, the iPad 3 will be refreshed to get the new Lightning port.
Apple has been quite busy this year with its new iPhones, iPods, and iPads. Unlike many of its competitors, the company is still making a killing in this industry. It will be interesting to see how successful the iPad mini will be.
