The wait for iOS 5 is over. Apple finally launched the new software for iOS device owners. As expected, the process did not go without issues. A number of people reported that they experienced various errors when trying to download the software. The download speed left a whole lot to be desired (understandable considering the circumstances). Many of us had our downloads dropped or received various error messages stopping us from updating our software. Multiple sources are reporting that the issue has been getting better.
As expected, iOS 5 brings a host of changes to iPhone and iPad. More than 200 new features have been added to the system. The Notification Center has been revamped. Twitter integration, the new iMessage app, AirPlay mirroring, WiFi syncing, and new multitouch gestures for iPad are all worth being excited about. iOS 5 users do get a chance to set up their iCloud account and backup their data to it as well.
Not surprisingly, iOS 5 jailbreak is already available for download. So far, the Dev Team has only released a tethered jailbreak solution for iOS 5. The hack has not been tested on iPhone 4S but is compatible with older iPhones and iPads. Since this is a tethered jailbreak, users will have to connect their phone to a computer running Redsn0w to boot it up. Redsnow is available for both Windows and Mac computers.
