We have covered plenty of taxi-hailing applications here in the past. These apps are quite useful in large cities such as New York as they save their users time getting a cab anywhere they are. Uber is one of the most popular players in this field. But it is going to face tough competition from Hailo, the European taxi hailing app. The company is raising $30M to focus more on the U.S. market, especially cities such as New York City.Â
Hailo is a rising European start-up. The Hailo apps for iPhone and Android help their users catch cab rides using their phone. They will be able to pay their fare automatically using their credit card. Hailo has presence in London, Toronto, Boston, and Chicago already. But the New York city market is very lucrative too. These apps provide taxi drivers with the opportunity to earn more money and offer better service. It is nice to see more players competing in this market.
The iPhone has reached millions of homes already. Many folks love using their iPhone regardless of how big their fingers are. But it seems some carriers are using crazy claims to turn people away from Apple products. Considering that Apple products are highly subsidized, this is not an exciting move. A reader of Tom’s Hardware is now claiming that a Sprint salesperson refused to sell him an iPhone because his fingers were too fat.
The story does sound ridiculous to say the least. Recommending the Samsung Galaxy S3 over the iPhone just because someone has “fat” fingers is not the best way to gain the trust of future customers. It will be interesting to see how Sprint responds to this story. Will someone get fired if this story is proven to be true? That remains to be seen.
