There are many reasons people go about jailbreaking their iPhones. Many do so for gaining more control over what their iPhones offer. App pirates are a fan of jailbreak solutions for iPhone and iPad as well. Hackulous is one of the sites they could use to download pirated apps. The site is shutting down though.
We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We’re incredibly thankful for the support we’ve had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.
The decision does make sense if the traffic was really down. Pirating iOS apps and making them available online for others is not the greatest idea anyway. This is not the end of app piracy. Some iOS users will still jailbreak their devices to pirate apps and back stab developers. They will just have one less place to visit to get their apps.
We had the opportunity to cover Cycloramic for iPhone here a few days ago. It is an exciting iPhone 5 application that captures 360 degree panoramic videos handsfree. The app has been well-received. Even Steve Wozniak seems to be a fan:
the app was unexpected, fanciful and useful all at the same time
Mr. Wozniak was quoted as saying on Cycloramic’s Facebook page. The app is designed specifically for the iPhone 5 though. It will be interesting to see where the developers go from here.
