There are few things that are certain in life, death, taxes, and iPhone 4G in 2010. Almost all experts agree that June/July 2010 is the period in which we can expect the next generation iPhone to be released to the market. These months are when everybody is looking for signs to figure out what Apple is planning. AT&T may indeed be sending a sign by moving the upgrade eligibility date for some customers to June 21st. Could that mean that the company is trying to make it up to some customers by giving them the chance to pick up the new iPhone without having to wait a few months?
Mobile Crunch has confirmed that this is really happening. However, it is not clear whether Apple is planning to release the new iPhone on that date. After all, Apple does not usually release new devices on a Monday (not good for Apple nor other businesses). Moreover, we still do not fully understand what AT&T could mean by offering “A discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price.”
Apple may want to speed up iPhone 4G’s launch process the way the company has been losing iPhone prototypes left and right. Most Apple fans have already heard about the Apple-Gizmodo story a million times. But that has not been the only iPhone that Apple has lost.
AT&T does not have any obligation to push the upgrade eligibility date forward for its customers. Nevertheless, the company has not been that great in improving the quality of its service. It never hurts to give something back to customers. Can June 22nd really be the date? We will have to wait and see.
