Apple Exploring Flexible Displays, iRadio Coming?
0Products with flexible displays are going to be available to the masses in the upcoming users. Apple competitors have already shown some of their plans in this area. It seems Apple is also investigating flexible displays. The company already has a handful of patents related to those. A recent job listing, which has been removed already, suggests Apple is hiring display specialists to investigate emerging display technologies.
Apple Inc. is looking for a Display Specialist to lead the investigation on emerging display technologies such as high optical efficiency LCD, AMOLED and flexible display to improve overall display optical performance.
The job requires in-depth understanding of display technology, including LCD and OLED design. Apple has already removed the job listing but it is hinting that flexible displays may be used for Apple products in the future. Samsung, Sony, and LG are already exploring this technology. It is only a matter of time before flexible smartphones are here.
Before we get flexible iPhones, we are going to see the iWatch, new iPads, and maybe the iHDTV. As Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty is suggesting, Apple is going to announce iRadio soon. This service is going to challenge streaming music services such as Pandora. The company also intends to introduce a “killer app” at WWDC. It could very well be related to mobile payments.
Tim Cook has mentioned how Apple has exciting products coming up this year. The iWatch and iRadio are worth looking forward to. We should know a bit more about Apple’s plans in a couple of months.
