With all the talks about iPhone 4G leaks and Apple’s treatment of the media and its developers, it is easy to somewhat forget what Apple is closing on as the first half of 2010 winds down. The iPad may be a very popular device, but the iPhone is still Apple’s top gadget. We are only weeks away from the release of iPhone 4G, but it’s very clear that iPhone 4G will have a huge level of demand. According to Digitimes, Apple’s contract manufacturer is prepared to ship 24 million units of iPhone in 2010.
Foxconn will ship 4.5 million units in the first half and 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 4G on June 7, 2010 during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
That is quite a huge number even for Apple. But Steve Jobs has talked about being more aggressive in these tough times. The company was pretty aggressive with its pricing strategy with iPad. Can Steve give us a much more affordable iPhone? We can’t put it past Apple considering that the company will do almost anything to show how superior its platform is to Android.
Apple is making big changes with iPhone 4G. Among those changes is use of a new technology on iPhone to make it easier for people to read e-books in sun-light. But none of these additions can explain the number above. It is likely that Apple is working on multiple flavors of iPhone. We are not going to see Verizon iPhone in 2010 (according to most reports), so one has to wonder what Apple has in mind. Maybe the company is hoping to leverage those leaks to sell millions of iPhones.
