Apple is selling a ton of iPhones and iPads these days. With its competitors not able to come up with a revolutionary phone or tablet to kill those devices, that trend will continue for the foreseeable future. Apple’s app business is booming too. iOS apps have been downloaded over 15B times already. According to Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, Apple’s app ecosystem will remain strong for the time being:
Smartphone users are showing an increasing appetite to use apps to add features to their phones… and iOS has the leading app ecosystem.
iOS device owners are expected to download as many as 83 apps in 2011 as opposed to 51 apps in 2010. Apparently, they are willing to pay more to get their hands on more quality titles too. With 82% of apps in the app store being offered for free, it is no wonder the platform gets so much love.
Apple sells a ton of other content through iTunes. Till now, Apple customers could only get their hands on 720p quality content through this service. As Apple Insider has found out, 1080p videos will come to iTunes later this year. The company could bring a new Apple TV model with more power to handle this type of content beautifully. How our Internet connections will handle these large files is another story.
