Apple Rolls Out iPhone 5 WiFi Fix, FreedomPop’s Service Launches
0In case you have been paying attention to Apple-related forums in the past few days, you have probably seen all the complaints about iPhone 5 scratch and WiFi issues. Apple has already addressed the “scratch-gate” issue. It has now released a guide to address some of the WiFi issues some iPhone 5 owners have been experiencing. This update is helpful for Verizon customers. A bug in iOS allowed some devices on Verizon Wireless’ network to consume cellular data while connected to WiFi.
Apple has provided Verizon customers with step by step instructions to help them fix this issue. The iPhone 5 and iOS 6 still have some issues for Apple to workout. But that is to be expected with new devices and operating systems. It is not clear whether this guide addresses all WiFi issues that iPhone 5 owners have been experiencing.
We covered FreedomPop here a while ago. The startup is all about bringing wireless broadband access to more homes. Its pay as you go service is now launching in beta, bringing fast wireless Internet access to those who need it. The company is planning to sell iPhone and iPad cases that serve as hotspots. Those should be available in the next few weeks. Users of this service will get 500mb of data for free per month. Every subsequent GB will cost them though.
How will FreedomPop make this business plan work? The company plans to rely on premium services to accomplish that. Special offers will also be made available to customers, giving them the opportunity to earn free data. It will be interesting to see how successful this business model will be.
