We have been hearing all kinds of rumors about Apple’s plans to introduce new products this week. As expected, Apple has started selling unlocked iPhones. The GSM versions of iPhone 4 are now available for sale without a contract. The starting price is set at $649. Getting your hands on unlocked iPhones is going to cost you a lot of money though. Depending on what you plan to do with your phone, it could be all worth it (especially since 2 year contracts would cost you a whole lot more).
Unlocked iPhones give international users the chance to get their hands on this piece of technology for a cheaper price. Being able to swap SIM in other countries can be a money saver too. Unfortunately, the unlocked version of CDMA iPhone is not available at this point.
Unlocked iPhones are not cheap and probably not for everyone. But if you have been dying to try your phone with other carriers and do not want to jailbreak your phone, paying the extra fee may be worth it. It will be interesting to see whether Apple continues this practice with iPhone 5.
