Were you hoping to see the watch Apple is working on in 2013? Even though Tim Cook mentioned earlier this year that new, exciting products were coming, he did not promise new product categories. We have already seen a good number of exciting Apple patents and ideas this year already. It is only a matter of time before Apple gets involved in the wearable computing business. For now, Tim Cook is keeping his cards close to his chest:
I didn’t say that you would see them in this year and the first half of next year … I did say that you would see some exciting new products from us in the fall and across 2014. If you look at new products … with our hardware, software, and services, and incredible app ecosystem, which is very unique, we obviously believe we can use our skills in building other new products in categories we do not participate in today,
explained Mr. Cook. That is a subtle hint at the fact that Apple will target new product categories. Apple’s new product will likely be a smartwatch but we could see an Apple TV set by the time 2014 is over. As far as iGlasses go, I doubt we will see them before 2015. That is if Apple even gets involved in that market.
Apple did release a couple of exciting iPads recently. The new iPad is available on November 1st. But what about the iPad mini Retina? By the look of it, Apple won’t have enough units to satisfy demand for these tiny tablets. Apple has not given us an exact release date for this product. Moreover, you can’t even pre-order any iPads. Let’s not kid ourselves, the iPad mini Retina is going to be very popular even though it costs more than the previous generation. If you need one for this year, you should try to order as early as possible.
