One thing that you got to love about iPhone is having to deal with the all the rumors that surround the device’s future. One day Apple is close to releasing a new iPhone with Verizon as its partner. The very next day you hear about Apple and Verizon not being so close to a deal after all. This time it seems Apple has finally closed the door on Verizon altogether. Verizon has been absolutely hammering AT&T and indirectly the iPhone with its Droid apps, and it would have been awkward to see the very same company having to promote the iPhone (not that it can’t happen). But one would hope that Apple has not killed its deal with Verizon over some ads. After all, considering that many analysts believe that Verizon would too struggle to handle with all the load that the iPhone would put on its network, there are better excuses available to Apple.
According to Geeksmack, Apple has finally decided to focus on its relationship with AT&T and not pursue a deal with Verizon. If that is truly the case, it’s a shame for all iPhone owners. You don’t have to look far to see why going with AT&T is not a good option for Apple. Even those who have been lucky enough to attend the sessions at CES 2010 have complained about bad coverage at the event. So AT&T’s quality of service has ways to go to completely satisfy iPhone owners. Maybe Apple should rethink its deal with AT&T as well, since the company is planning to introduce Android-based iPhone competitors.
Apple has made great progress with iPhone through its partnership with AT&T. 3b apps downloaded is a feat Apple wouldn’t have achieved without a wireless partner. But that happened despite of AT&T and not because of it. Apple may be working to improve iPhone and add better touch capability and all kinds of craziness to it. But the quality of service on iPhone needs to be improved or the device will be useless when you really need it.
Lets hope Apple has good news for all of us on Jan 27th. After all, that’s when the company is supposed to announce the next generation iPhone and its tablet. The iPhone may not fare better on Verizon, but that’s something I am personally willing to test. The alternative is too dreadful.
