We are still days away from WWDC but Apple has gone out of its way to let us all know what it has in store for all iOS fans. In a surprising move, Apple has already spilled the beans and announced it will be debuting iOS 5 and iCloud at the event on June 6th:
Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the companys annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software – Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apples advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apples upcoming cloud services offering.
To be fair, Apple did already hint at its plans by buying icloud.com domain name a short while ago. It is going to be similar to Amazon’s Cloud Drive and Google’s music cloud service. It is expected to cover more than just music though. iCloud will be fully integrated into iOS 5. Considering that even Steve Jobs hated the first iteration of MobileMe (actually the way it made Apple look), iCloud could turn out to be something special.
The details are still a bit sketchy about the new features in iOS 5. Rumor has it that iOS 5 will support widgets just like Google Android. Over the air updates could be a part of this update too. Some have suggested that Twitter could be deeply integrated into next generation iOS. Those of you who are a big fan of Google Maps will be happy to know that Apple has decided not to ditch it this time.
There are no words about the new iPhone or iPad 3 though. Most rumors point to iPhone 5 coming early next year though. With iCloud, new Mac OS, iOS 5 coming soon, Apple fans have a lot to cheer about.
