Learn German on iPhone & iPad: 8 iOS Apps

The German language is a beautiful one to learn. Based on my own experience, it is not the easiest one to master though. You are always going to have an easier time learning the language if you spend a few month in Germany or hang out with native speakers. Not everyone can do that. Taking a course or two classes might help. These 8 iOS apps can also help you learn German faster:

Duolingo: a free and elegant iOS application that makes learning Spanish, German, and a few other languages more fun. It brings an interactive experience to your tablet.

MindSnacks for iOS: helps you learn German while playing games on your mobile device. It has:

  • 9 addictive games
  • over 1000 German words and phrases
  • 50 German lessons
  • images to help you memorize words

24/7 Tutor German: provides you with a set of study tools to help you learn the language. It has native speaker audio for all the words it covers. You can also try the flash card method.

Learn a Language with Michel Thomas: helps you learn French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Developed by Michel Thomas, this app provides you with an all audio method to learn a new language. Flash cards are included to help you remember what you have learned for longer.

Busuu: designed for beginner to intermediate users. It covers 150 different topics and 3000+ words. You can synchronize your profile to busuu.com.

Wie Geht’s: this German language app covers vocabulary, phrases, and grammar concepts. You will learn greetings, colors, social etiquette, and other essential topics. The app contains 79 lessons and over 1900 words and phrases. It teaches you how to pronounce names correctly.

WordPower: helps you improve your German Vocabulary. It covers 100 of the most frequently used words and phrases in the German language. You can use it as a travel guide (with information on culture and travel phrases). Free audio lessons and sample sentences are available.

Learn German Free: covers essential German phrases and words. It offer audio pronunciation for each word. Does not require an Internet connection to work.

You are not going to learn to speak German like a native overnight. Let’s just say it will take a while. The above German language apps can teach you a thing or two and help you make faster progress.
