Google Reader is dying. It is truly sad that Google has decided to close the service. But the world is not going to end after July 1. In fact, Google Reader users have ha ample time to move to a new RSS reader service. Fever is one of those. It is a powerful script that lets you create your own RSS service. You will need a server to pull that off. Fever already has a mobile-friendly user interface but you could use these 2 Fever clients for iPhone to keep up with your RSS feeds conveniently:
Sunstroke: an iPhone app designed specifically for Shaun Inman’s Fever. It syncs with your Fever account and provides you with hot links, saved items, and more. It is social media friendly and offers offline viewing of your downloaded items.
Reeder: this application is available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It was designed to sync with Google Reader but also supports Fever. The developers are adding support for Feedbin also. Reeder supports sharing services such as Buffer, Readability, Evernote, Pocket, and more.
Fever is a great RSS reader script if you have a decent web host and don’t mind running your own system. It will set you back $30 per license. At the same time, you won’t have to be dependent on other companies to track your favorite RSS feeds.
