5 Best iPhone 3G Battery Extenders (Update)
18iPhone may be a great gadget, but the battery is not as good as it needs to be to handle long talks when you are on the move. It’s true that iPhone 3GS has gotten a lot better in this department, but it is still nice to have a way out when you are stuck with an iPhone that is running out of battery fast. That’s where battery extenders come in. These cool gadgets not only let you charge your iPhone fast, they provide you with extra hours of talk time. You may not need these every single day, but it’s better to have them and not need them than the other way around.

The new LiFepo4pak is here , with a whopping 3000mAh of power to run ALL your 3G applications ALL day long. Looks cool too.

What are your thoughts on the mophie air. Which is better?
I have the Tekkeon MP1200 and it really does double your battery life. It’s a great product and you get two for a price of one with the nice leather case.
Husband bought me the cool red Mophie for Christmas. We put it on. Used my phone for about 2 hours (which was fully charged) and all of a sudden my phones dead, won’t turn on, nothing. Dead. He removed the Mophie and plugged my phone back into it’s normal charger and after a few minutes it came back to life, showing it was still 3/4 charged. He went online and read that this gadget is a HOS and is killing phones left and right. I have a brand new 3GS and am not taking any chances so back it goes. Just my two cents…be careful.
Hi Amy,
Sad to hear that. It could be that your Mophie was a bad one. My phone is still alive, so I am not sure what happened there. Did you call the guys at Mophie?
iboost batt extender price reduced to $60 !!!

No we just read the reviews after the fact on a few different websites and found that we should of done some research before purchasing it. It appears to be a pretty common problem. ;-( We just took it right back to Apple store no problem. I’m just bummed cause it seemed soooooo cool and I had the red one which was purty.
I’m still searching for what to replace it with. ??? Any suggestions anyone??
😉 Amy
There is another by Fastmac, (http://fastmac.com/iv.php), it has enough power to give you 3 full charges, an LED light for the camera and also a USB port to charge an extra device.
Check the 2200mAh battery from monoprice. Less expensive than you think…
Hello,
I have bought and tried several battery extenders, charger add-ons.
Mophie was the 1st ones I bought. I purchased one for my phone
and one for my wife’s. Mine broke in half after 3months. Input it
back together and about 2 months later it died. My wife’s died 2
months after that. No more Mophie juice at all.
I bought 2 from Richard Solo to test. Both were good with no issues
as of yet. I don’t use them regularly and I get 1 and 1/2
charges from the small one and 2 charges from the larger one.
Then I bought the IMP 500. About 3 charges from it to my
iPhone. Easy to use and easy to charge. I used it alot.
Don’t connect the iPhone to charge, and charge the IMP
at the sam time. You will kill the battery life and the IMP
will be dead.
I have given my wife an IMP for Christmas. I have ordered
the IMP 800 and am waiting for it. They are sold through IMAX.
The cost of about 75.00 and free shipping is attractive with
the number of added hours I get.
iPhone using the USB cord. I get lots of added power for my
iPhones. It is the best so far for my use.
Easy to use and easy to charge. I used it alot.

That doesn't make sense. Better English would be appreciated.
What do you mean don't connect the iPhone to charge, and charge the IMP at the sam time…? That's what the device is for!… To connect the Iphone and the Mophie at the same time!
I would recommend that in order to avoid heating up the iPhone battery, charge both batteries with different chargers until both are fully charged and then connect the iPhone to the Mophie. That way both batteries will have about the same charge when it comes to recharging them. This helps avoid over charging which is why some battery boosters are only 500ma (the amount of charging current available from USB ports). 1200ma could damage the iPhone battery as it is more current than what the iPhone battery is rated to charge at. This is probably why some people have dead iPhone batteries in a short period of time. There should be some kind of current limiting device in the Mophie to prevent overheating the iPhone battery.
David, it seemed obvious to me that he meant you can’t recharge the IMP while using the IMP to recharge the iPhone.
Beyond that, you clearly do not understand how batteries work. They are rated in milliamp hours (mAh), which indicates how much of a load they can sustain – in other words, a 1000 mAh battery can supply 1000 milliamps for an hour or 500 milliamps for two hours and so on. The current or voltage (+5V in this case, if my memory serves) stays the same regardless of how large the battery’s capacity.
The largest iPhone battery pack I’ve seen so far is 8900mAh, which should keep your iPhone on the air for several days even with heavy use.
Whose 8900mAh are you talking about. Have you had any use experience with that one?
How is that done?
I just got Auto3G from Cydia yesterday and it works, thus far, really great. Definitely some improved battery life. Here is the app's descrip: "Auto3G extends your battery life by automatically turning off the 3G radio (leaving on the 2G radio) when you lock your iPhone and automatically turning on the 3G radio when you unlock your iPhone. This way you always have the speed of 3G when you need it without the battery loss. As explained by Apple, this results in up to 100% greater battery life: '7 hours of talk time on 3G, 14 hours of talk time on 2G.' (apple.com/batteries/iphone.html)"
I only see one seller on ebay offering the Satechi iCel 4400 mAh Battery Extender, but 30 bucks for shipping to Canada from US??? 🙁
Have you tried Amazon? Too pricey?
