Apple iPhone 5 Event Coverage

We are only minutes away from the official iPhone 5 announcement. Apple seems to have already spilled the beans on its Japanese retail website. Apparently, iPhone 4s exists and will start shipping on October 14th.

1:05 PM: Sprint’s logo has also been spotted on Apple’s website. So it seems the rumors of Sprint gambling to get the iPhone are true.

1:08 PM: So far we have heard a lot about Apple’s international stores and plans. This is pretty standard for these types of events. A lot of talk about current products and their successes.

1: 14 PM: almost all Apple products are getting love during the event. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for iPods.

1:18 PM: the question at this point is whether we will get an iPhone 5 next to the 4s model that was leaked earlier today.

1:25 PM: there are 140k apps available for iPad in the app store. That is why it is tough to beat iPad.

1:27 PM: one of the main challenges of covering Apple events is staying patient. There are a lot of talks about stats, new apps, sales, and so on. No words on the new iPhones yet.

1:29 PM: new platform features are being discussed at this points. Notifications, reminder app, Twitter integration, … OK. We need something new.

1:33 PM: Tim, please get to the iPhones. By the way, did you guys see the upcoming Adobe Photoshop app coming to iOS in the near future?

1:35 PM: October 12th. Mark it down. That’s when you can download iOS 5 (and start jailbreaking it if you must).

1:39 PM: iCloud is going to be great. We all know that.

1:42 PM: iCloud will be coming on October 12th.

1:44 PM: Family and Friends…. new app to keep track of your friends and family members. Their location that is.

1:46 PM: iTunes Match is introduced. We have known about this for a while now. It matches your library with the cloud. The fitness features have been improved too (we are talking about a separate feature here, for iPad nano).

1:50 PM: right now, the iPad nano is being covered. It comes in 7 colors. The iPod nano will go for 8GB for $129, and 16GB for $149.

2:19 PM: Siri is cool 🙂 But again, the rumors spoiled it for us.

2:30 PM: they are currently showing a demo of the new iPhone. Siri was quite impressive but the demo dragged on. It’s a world phone, so this should make Apple fans happy.

2:35 PM: iPhone 4S will be available in black and white. Pricing: 16GB for $199, 32GB for $299, and 64GB for $399.

2:36 PM: iPhone 3Gs will be available for free. iPhone 4 for $99. Sprint gets the iPhone. Pre-orders starting on October 7th.
