iPro Lens System for iPhone Unveiled
1The iPhone has a pretty decent set of cameras on board. There is a good reason many folks on sites such as Flickr use these tiny devices to capture photos on the go. The fact that there are plenty of awesome iPhotography add-ons available for iPhone has helped as well. Schneider Optics’ latest product, the iPro Lens System, is developed to enhance the capabilities of your iPhone’s camera. It lets you attach lenses to the iPhone 4 or 4S.
iPro Lens System has a case that hugs the iPhone and accepts lenses. The kit includes wide angle and fisheye lenses. The wide angle attachment widens the field of view by 35% whereas the fisheye lens captures a 165° field of view. Both of these lenses use a bayonet mount to attach to your phone in a secure fashion. The included handle makes attaching the phone to a tripod easy but could help you take more stable shots.
The entire 3 piece system does set you back $199. These are guaranteed to work with only the iPhone 4 and 4S.
Are you impressed with this lens system?
Cool, but expensive and gimmicky considering I could buy a GoPro for the price of the kit. Which is waterproof, proven durable, and less bulky– available with an assortment of mounts which granted can add up in cost if you plan to wear it, hook it to your car/bike, and go surfing. Few of those are possible with an iPhone, even a tricked out one with Schneider lenses.
I’ll wait and see the price of just the wide angle lens sold separately and if they offer a mounting solution that doesn’t require a case. Would be handy when I don’t want to lug the DSLR around.
