Amazon Instant Video for iPhone, Google Maps on iOS Better than Android?
0Google Maps for iPhone is already here. Google claimed for a while that it had no intention of making a maps app for iOS. But most experts knew that it was not entirely true. The new Google Maps not only performs well but is fast and quite clean. It offers accurate results, voice navigation, public transportation information, and 3D views. It has its own SDK, giving developers the chance to use maps content within their apps.
Google Maps has many advantages in comparison to Apple Maps. But does Google think the iOS version is better than the one available for Android devices? That’s what New York Times reviewer David Pogue has stated. Let’s make no mistake about it. Maps for Android users do get deeper integration with other Google services. But it is nice to see Google develop a high quality product for a competing platform. An iPad version of this app is also in the works.
Speaking of new iPhone applications, Amazon has announced that its Amazon Instant Video service will now be available on iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The app will let Amazon Prime members have unlimited access to over 30k Prime Instant Videos on their phone. Users get their video purchases and rentals. Both streaming and downloading of Instant Video movies and TV episodes are supported.
The reaction to the new Amazon Instant Video app has been mixed though. Many users are now complaining about AirPlay being disabled in this new version. While it works well on WiFi, many users are asking for Amazon to offer cellular streaming. At this point. Amazon Instant Video remains a work in progress.
